About the cottage

Dog Owners

Well behaved dogs are welcome at Hawes Cottage. Please ensure that there is no dog mess anywhere in the vicinity of the cottages. As we write this brochure, you will have two long haired black Labradors living next door; Dana and Sula. They are very friendly, but can be very lively, particularly with other dogs and children.

When walking your dogs along the tracks, please keep them under control as there is often livestock in the fields. If they get into the fields and interfere with the animals, the farmer will not be very pleased!!! (Although he has never carried out this threat).

Cleaning.

A thorough cleaning has taken place prior to your arrival. If you need to wash any linen or towels mid-week, please use the washing machine/tumble drier for this purpose. We provide supplies of all the cleaning material you should need, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and washing-up liquid. We also provide you with clean supplies of linen and extra toilet paper etc. if you are here for more than one week. Please advise us when would be convenient for us to do this on the middle Saturday of your stay.

Fuel.

All fuel is included in the price you have paid. A small supply of logs, coal and kindling is kept by the fire. Matches should also be on the bottom shelf to the right of the fireplace. Extra supplies are to be found in the outside shed nearest the kitchen window. The fire will be set ready for you to light. To prepare for your next fire roll and tie at least 12 double sheets of broadsheet newspaper, place a couple of handfuls of kindling on top. Once you light this and the wood starts to burn, add some coal. You can then keep the fire going with coal or logs., whichever you prefer.

Fire extinguishers

We have a fire extinguisher in the lounge on the table by the phone. We also have a fire blanket in the kitchen. If you have cause to use either of those appliances, please let us know.

Lavatory

Please do not flush sanitary towels, cotton wool, nappy liners or similar down the toilet as these will block up the septic tank. I assure you, you do not want this to happen!!!

Rubbish.

A supply of bags for the kitchen bin is found in the cupboard off the kitchen. This is where extra supplies of most things are kept. Please put the full bin bags in the wheely-bin which is in the shed next to where the wood and coal are kept.

Phone.

The cottage phone number is 01360 660580. It is available for you to use, just put what you think the call has cost in the honesty box beside the phone.
Mobile phones may or may not work in the house, but most will if you stand by the outhouses.
You can use the phone socket for emails/internet connections. Again, put the cost of the call in the honesty box.

First Aid Kit.

There is one kept in the walk-in cupboard off the kitchen. It was complete at the start of the season and we will check it from time to time. If you finish any items within it, we would appreciate if you let us know so that we can replace them for the next guests.
